Connection to CAN bus (CAN Bus & Telemetry)

Connection to the CAN bus: The whole truth about engine operation without intervention

Safe reading of on-board computer data for cars (Chevrolet), trucks (MAN, Isuzu) and special equipment. Get 30+ parameters: fuel consumption, rpm, temperature and engine hours without voiding the factory warranty.

The car already knows everything. You just need to hear.

A modern car is a computer on wheels. Data about the consumption, mileage and health of the engine is already in its “brains” (ECU). It is often not necessary to install external sensors, and sometimes it is impossible (for example, on warranty vehicles or plastic tanks).\n\nWe use CAN bus reading technology. This is the “nervous system” of the car. Our tracker connects to it and transmits to Wialon the same numbers that the driver sees on the dashboard, plus hidden diagnostic parameters.

Safety Guarantee (Non-contact reading)

The main fear of the owner of new equipment (Yutong, Sitrak, Chevrolet Tracker) is “the electricians will cut the wires, and the dealer will void the warranty.”\n\nWe solve this with the help of contactless readers (CAN-Crocodile).\n\nHow it works: The device is put on over the insulation of the wires like a clip. It reads data through an electromagnetic field.\n\nResult: No cuts, twists or damage to insulation. The dealer will not see traces of connection, the guarantee remains 100%.

Why is regular GPS not enough?

A simple tracker only shows “Where” and “How many km”. But this is not enough for professional park management. Without CAN data you are blind:

Gasoline cars

On Cobalt or Gentra you cannot install an in-tank sensor in the tank (difficult and expensive). Without CAN you will not see real gas mileage.

Killing the motor

Drivers rev the engine to the red zone (high revs) or overheat it in traffic jams. A regular tracker won't show this.

Cheating the odometer

The stock odometer on the dash and GPS mileage may vary. CAN shows the “mileage from the brain”, which cannot be twisted with a “winder”.

Eco driving

It is impossible to assess driving style without data on the position of the gas and brake pedals.

What does the dispatcher see via CAN?

Option #1

Liters and Nozzles

For gasoline cars, we see the total volume of fuel that passed through the injectors. For trucks - the level in the tank (in%) from the standard sensor. This is an ideal solution for monitoring flow without drilling into the tank.

Taxi and rental solution (Chevrolet)

In Uzbekistan, thousands of Chevrolet Cobalt, Onix and Tracker are used in business.\n\nInstalling embedded fuel sensors on them is unprofitable and dangerous.\n\nConnecting to the CAN bus is a standard for the passenger fleet.\n\nYou get:\n• Accurate mileage (as on the odometer).\n• Fuel consumption (l/100 km).\n• Remaining fuel in the tank (in liters or %).\n• Status of doors (open/closed), seat belts and ignition.

3

Setting up templates

Scaling data in Wialon to display real liters and degrees.

Questions about this service

We support more than 1500 models. These are almost all modern passenger cars (since 2010), trucks (MAN, Mercedes, Isuzu, Howo, Shacman, Kamaz K5) and special equipment (JCB, CAT, John Deere).
On passenger cars - yes, completely. On trucks, we recommend combining: FLS for precise control of filling/unloading, and CAN for monitoring engine consumption and speed. A truck's stock float may have 'dead spots'.
Yes. If this information is in the on-board computer (on modern tractors), we will transfer it to Wialon. This will help avoid fines for turning off the gas neutralization system.
Yes. On most passenger cars (for example, Tracker, Onix), we see the status of the driver and passenger belt. This is important for enterprise safety standards (HSE).
No. We use contactless readers (Crocodile) or connect via the diagnostic connector (OBDII/FMS) using standard connectors.
No. Our trackers operate in “listener” mode (Listen only). They only read data, but do not send anything to the bus, so they cannot cause errors or malfunctions in the engine.
