Anti-fraud Technologies: FLS vs CAN vs Flow Meters

There is no one-size-fits-all solution. We select equipment based on your vehicle type:

  • Capacitive FLS (L.L.S.): The «Gold Standard» for trucks and special equipment. Error margin <1%. Sees refills, drains, and actual consumption.
  • Flow meters (Direct/Diff): Plumbed into the fuel line. They count every gram passing through the injectors. Ideal for mining equipment and diesel generators with complex tank shapes or «return line» theft.
  • Contactless readers (CAN): For vehicles under warranty or passenger cars (Chevrolet) where drilling the tank is prohibited. Data is taken from the onboard computer.

Draining via «return line»

Fuel is slowly siphoned off while driving. The FLS detects abnormally high consumption, while the flow meter shows the discrepancy between supply and return.

A driver buys a receipt for 200 liters but fills only 150. The system will show: receipt +200, sensor +150. The driver pays the difference.

Methane Underfill

Fuel Control FAQ

No. Modern digital sensors do not react to magnetic fields. An attempt to shock it with a taser will blow the fuse, but the sensor's memory will record a 'Voltage Surge' event.
For tractors and bulldozers, we install two sensors in the tank or use smoothing algorithms containing inclinometer data to exclude false drains/refills.
To install an FLS in a diesel tank, a technological hole is made. It is absolutely safe because diesel is not explosive. The installation point is sealed with oil-resistant gaskets and then sealed.
We have extensive experience with plastic tanks (Shacman, MAN). The installation technique is slightly different (reinforcing the mounting point), but the accuracy remains just as high.
An FLS shows the level (remaining amount) and refill/drain events. A flow meter only shows how much fuel passed through the engine. For a complete picture on complex machinery, we recommend installing both.
Diesel fuel expands when heated. If you fill a tank in the morning (+20°C) and leave it in the sun (+50°C), the level will rise. Our sensors and the Wialon platform use thermal compensation algorithms to negate this physics.
For propane (LPG), ultrasonic level sensors are used, which are attached to the bottom of the cylinder externally, preserving its integrity.
