GPS monitoring of heavy equipment: control of engine hours, fuel and real work of excavators, cranes and bulldozers on Uzbekistan sites.

Heavy equipment differs from a truck in one fundamental way: it earns its keep not by driving, but by working in place. An excavator digs, a crane lifts, a bulldozer pushes soil — all at zero or minimal mileage. That is why ordinary "map tracking", which is enough for a truck, is almost useless for heavy machinery. A fundamentally different monitoring approach is needed here.

The key metric is engine hours, not kilometres

On a site or in a quarry the question is: "how many hours did the machine actually work under load?" The mechanic logs 10 engine hours, but the machine idled for 4 while the operator had tea or waited for a dump truck.

Engine-hour accounting — by real engine operation, or better, by real load via the CAN bus — gives an honest figure and solves three tasks at once:

  • Maintenance planning — by real runtime, not eyeballed by calendar
  • Rental payment — you pay for hours actually worked, not for time the machine was "on site"
  • Idle detection — you see how long the machine stood idle with the engine on, burning diesel

Fuel: where heavy equipment loses the most

Diesel on a quarry dump truck or excavator is the number-one cost. Drains happen on an industrial scale for a simple reason: the tank is large, the machine sits on a remote unguarded site at night, and the volumes are such that even a small percentage of "leakage" becomes serious money over a month.

  • Fuel-level sensor — logs every refuel and drain, even at night on site, and alerts on abnormal drops
  • Flow meter — counts fuel that actually passed through the engine
  • Idle control — shows how much diesel was burned for nothing

More on the fuel control page.

A single excavator on a large site can "lose" several hundred litres of diesel a month through drains and unaccounted idling. Across a fleet of 10–15 units, that is a sum that could buy a new machine every year.

Mechanism and side-job control

Implement sensors show whether the excavator bucket worked or the machine just idled — settling the main dispute between client and contractor. Geofences flag whether rented equipment left for another site during working hours. This is the subject of our construction and machinery service solutions.

Installation specifics for heavy equipment

Heavy equipment works in harsh conditions: vibration, dust, temperature swings. An ordinary consumer tracker won't last long here. We use industrial-grade Teltonika and Queclink hardware with vibration protection and install with hidden wiring so the operator cannot disconnect the device.

The bottom line

Honest engine hours instead of an eyeballed log, fuel protected from night drains, maintenance by real runtime, and control of mechanism work and side jobs on rented equipment. For a heavy-equipment fleet the system typically pays for itself in one to two months from eliminating fuel drains alone.
